Dear Keyboard Warriors and Hactivists:

Here’s a running list of Myanmar military and military-affiliated websites and social media accounts to target.

Context

  • The military (aka Tatmadaw) has occupied the Southeast Asian nation of Myanmar for the last 59+ years as a brutal and violent colonising force. During this time, it has destroyed Myanmar’s society and economy, and enriched a small circle of military elites at the expense of ordinary people.
  • The Tatmadaw runs 2 massive multibillion dollar business conglomerates: Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited and Myanmar Economic Corporation. The military’s beer brands have an 80% market share, while its cigarette brands have a 50% market share.
  • On 1 February 2021, the military staged an unconstitutional coup d’état, just one day before recently elected MPs were scheduled to be sworn in. The MP-elects, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, and President Win Myint, were all in the capital of Naypyidaw for the inauguration, making them vulnerable sitting ducks.
  • The people of Myanmar are now risking their own lives to resist the military coup, taking a stand against oppression and the Tatmadaw’s predatory behaviour, in order to restore civilian rule. Millions have participated in peaceful mass protests, the civil disobedience movement (CDM), labour strikes, pot-banging, and more. The military has responded with violent force, murdered a 20-year-old girl, and arrested ~500 people, including politicians, artists, and Buddhist monks.
